South Carolina’s Most Problematic Summertime Pests & Insects

The heat of the summer has arrived here in Myrtle Beach and that means more and more pests are active which can cause problems for homeowners. Regular pest control is the best way homeowners can combat this problem. Our pest control team here at Best Home & Property Service has come up with a list of the most problematic summertime pests here in South Carolina.

Ants

Whether they’re on the side of your driveway or building colonies throughout your lawn, sugar ants can wiggle their way into small spaces to find food which can cause an infestation in your kitchen or pantry.

Also, keep an eye out for carpenter ants this summer. These little guys aren’t attracted to food, but are known to tunnel through pieces of wood to build their nests!

Palmetto/Water Bugs (Cockroaches)

These pests love to rummage through garbage cans searching for food and can sometimes wiggle their way into homes. While these little critters can crawl through almost anything, they can carry many germs and diseases and their droppings can cause respiratory issues to those with asthma, etc.

Horse Flies

These are among the most annoying pest that can appear here in South Carolina during heatwaves because they can cause painful bites that can cause bleeding and swelling. Some smells horse flies hate are: peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, clove, rosemary, basil, and more.

While these are only a few of the most problematic pests here in South Carolina, many other pests can become a nuisance if not taken care of. The best way to keep pests out is with regular pest control and keeping food cleaned up and stored properly.
