How To Pest-Proof Your Home

With the holidays coming to an end, you've probably had many guests over (some welcomed & some not) and with the start of a new year, you've probably made a few resolutions. Maintaining your home may be one of them, but you may want to consider adding pest-proofing your home to it! Spring will be here before you know it and there's no better time than now to start protecting against pests that could end up costing you a lot of time and money down the road! That's why we've come up with these tips on how to pest-proof your home before the warmer weather arrives.

Store Items Properly

When it comes to packing and storing items in your home, it's best to store your items in dry plastic containers securely sealed with a lid. This is the best way to keep pests from chewing through cardboard or your items getting wet and moldy.

Repair All Cracks

Eliminating any entryway for pests plays a huge part in keeping pests out of your home. Pest will try to wiggle their way in anywhere they can fit, so make sure all doorways, window seals, and pipes are sealed off completely.

Keep Your Kitchen Clean

Just about every unwanted pest is attracted to food that's leftover or left out, so keeping a clean kitchen is essential to keeping pests out! Check to make sure all food is stored properly, your counters are free of spillage and rinse containers out before throwing them in the trash.

Give Your Pets Their Own Dining Space

Pets are messy. Plain and Simple. When you let your pet eat anywhere on the floor you risk them spilling food in hard to reach places that can invite pests in without you even realizing it. By keeping your pet's food contained in one space, it'll be easier to clean up spilled food.

Don't Forget About Outside

Despite the chilly weather, pest-proofing the outside of your home is just as important as the inside. By removing old debris from around your yard, roof, and gutters you eliminate a potential bridge for pests. Another great tip is to place bird feeders around your yard to attract birds that will snack on the pests trying to enter your home.  By following these tips, your home will enjoy far fewer pests which will allow you to focus on other important things!
